where to drink this weekend
Fresh Kills, 161 Grand St, Williamsburg.
so maybe this is on everyone’s hot list since it opened, but that neither makes it cliché nor typical. in a land of unique cocktail bars all vying to be your tinder date venue, this one just moved to the top of my list. why? this place used to be somewhat of an apartment-speakeasy, so the transition into cozy, unassuming neighborhood cocktail bar isn’t so far-fetched. The drink list is rotating and always meticulously crafted, the staff is simple and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is ideal for whatever evening you have in store. meet me there, in one of the hand-stitched leather booths. tonight.
where to eat this weekend
El Almacen, 557 Driggs Ave, Williamsburg.
from the land where all truly beautiful pieces of meat originate, comes el almacen, one of the best places to get a steak in the city (as far as I’m concerned), right off the bedford stop. walking upstairs into the dining room feels like you’re being welcomed into a family kitchen, and the focus of the meals is on sharing- big, beautiful cuts of meat, carafes of amazing argentenian and Spanish wines, heaps of seasonally fresh vegetables, long farmhouse tables. plan to stay for a while, and don’t leave without getting the flan. you little custard pudding, you.
