to inspire the adventurous soul, to mobilize wandering feet, to stimulate the curious mind, to ignite the restless heart.
Brooklyn, I’m Trying started as a weekly email to a somewhat select group of people, outlining my (and hopefully their) social plans for the weekend. When people started forwarding this email along, or texting me for personal recommendations, or messaging me asking, “Hey, do you still have that Barcelona travel guide? I have a friend who’s going…” I knew I was onto something, and I also realized I’m not all that good at juggling multiple inboxes and the prompt responses demanded by modern society.
My response became this. Brooklyn, I’m Trying to move you. To show you parts unknown within this city that you’ve so desperately chosen (or did it choose us?), to inspire you to travel far beyond the horizon of our iconic skyline, to write words that move your heart to beat faster or with more impact or with your hand, suddenly and unknowingly upon it.
Brooklyn, I started writing to you long ago and usually late at night or from a very tiny window in the corner of my desktop computer from some unforgivable fashion house before I decided this is what I want to do. This is what I want to try to do. And so I quit my job to be a writer (and thus also learn to be a bartender) and here I am now. Writing, learning, seeking, trying.
