to be careful with soft hearts.
to be wary of what is given to you to bear.
that though they may seem a burden,
they are a gift.
a heart to hold cannot be dismissed or denied.
it cannot be shaken or tried.
it must be held, tight- until it leaves you.
for you too have often been a vagrant heart.
where your very existence
seemed to hinge
on a smile
on a kindness
on a recognition from another.
and you were beheld
until held no longer.
and with the cadence of your being
noticeably offset
you said goodbye….
long after anyone was waiting to hear it-
goodbye,
a declaration rather than a farewell;
goodbye-
a decision made, haphazardly,
as to where, or whom,
to seek dwelling with next.
