There is something inherently charming about New York in the Fall. That light crispness in the air, the unbelievable colors that settle upon the skyline at sunset, the entire city looking unified and tough in black leather, that funny urge to go out and by school supplies (or is that just me and Meg Ryan?).
This photo was taken in a bathroom in the Petit Bordeaux neighborhood of Montreal, where I found myself for a few days last week (the city that is, not just the bathroom). And I was reminded just how beautiful this entire state of New York is from a train window, barreling through the Hudson Valley. There is nothing more stunning than seeing so many fall colors reflected in the glassy surface of Lake Champlain while sipping a nice paper cup of red wine and enjoying a train hot dog (don’t judge.)
While I had about 11 hours to take in all of this beauty, I realized just how big and beautiful this state is. There is so much more to New York than just the city. However, we are the beating, bleeding heart of this state. It’s us city slickers that define this place, no matter how big “up-state” actually is.
So put on that leather jacket, our designated sexy Fall uniform. Let’s look like a team out there. Let’s go forth and embrace and the spirit of this stunning city in what is probably its best season. Let’s paint the town red, and orange, and yellow, and any other Autumn colors your heart desires. This is our city. Let’s keep it fresh. Let’s keep it moving. Let’s embrace it while it’s nice and crispy.
