trends are fleeting. embrace only those seasonal styles that embrace you, that empower you, that grip you and give you a stronger sense of presence, of self affirmation, of inherent desirability. in this series i hope to show trends as they embody the women they are draped upon- in all of her captivating complexity.
spring 2016 runways were unabashedly splashed with everyone’s favorite pantone color of the year, rose quartz.
this isn’t last year’s blush- rose quartz comes with an added dynamic of mysticism, a layer of mineral complexity and fractured light that inevitably makes you lost in its intentionally enigmatic beauty. it is graphic and dynamic, it is inexplicably deep, it is coated in a slightly perceptible iridescence– it’s active, it’s visceral, it’s anything but subtle.
and it’s worn by a woman who will be noticed by her palpable magnetism, known for her relentless unattainability, and remembered for the sweet and fleeting taste left thoughtlessly on your lips, long after she’s left.
to go to another event, of course.
let your spring embody la vie en rose, with my picks, here:
1 the intricate crochet-style lace of this dress has a hope chest feel, but strategically-exposed skin tells you that ship has long since passed. the lorraina crochet mini dress, from our friends at nasty gal, $88. stop blushing already, get it here.
2 just a hint of hue on your wrist adds a fresh perspective on accessorizing- oh, and i guess people use this to keep track of time. that fickle thing. watch, by the horse via need supply. $119. it’s time, get yours.
3 bold bell sleeves and a high collar contrast the sexy shortness of this day-to-night mini dress. pair with statement earrings, edgy heels, and an obviously snarky-sweetness that no one will actually buy into. the winnie bell sleeve dress from our friends at nasty gal, $98 sweet enough, right? get it here.
4 ah, alice and olivia and pants go together like… things that go really fucking well together. the dramatic silhouette of these extra wide high-waist trousers pairs perfectly with just a glimpse of midriff. wear with a lace crop top as seen here for an enigmatic monochrome look and the ideal seductive-playful balance that this color embraces. pants and top, alice and olivia via shopbop $297. steal this look, right here.
5 let’s be honest- your classic pack could use an update- our favorite impossible-to-pronounce carry-all fjallraven (it’s an exclusive category) in this season’s favorite hue, via nordstrom, $65 pack it up, pack it in.
6 the relentlessly perceptive rebecca minkoff gives us a seasonless hobo that somehow is perfect for every lifestyle. this one embodies the inherent sassiness of the woman herself. rose hobo, $325, throw it over your shoulder.
7 a structured bag in this hue naturally lends itself to a complex juxtaposition- a soft hue with stark, architectural lines. and the vaguely envelope-like shape gives off the feeling of an exclusive event and a chance to make an entrance. by karl lagerfeld via net-a-porter, $295. the envelope, please- has your name on it this time.
8 oh-so-sneaky. go on, let your feet get into la vie en rose with these fresh kicks from achilles via need supply. $454. to sneak around and get noticed, start here and finish first. every time.
