Read my guide to the best date spots in Greenpoint, from pre-dinner cocktails to the most romantic restaurants, where to see live entertainment and the best late-night bars to increase your chances of making bad decisions later.
And, if you play your cards right, the best neighborhood bakeries to hit up in the morning.
If you know Greenpoint, you know that the neighborhood is has a few very distinct areas. If you don’t know Greenpoint, get to know it. The northern part of the ‘hood, or NoGreePo as it is known, has a very local vibe. Centered around the bars, restaurants, and shops along Franklin Street, this part of the neighborhood feels like it was made to be explored hand-in-hand with a lover, watching the sunset in Transmitter Park, ducking into one of at least 20 bars for a cocktail, having a long dinner at one of the neighborhood’s top-rated restaurants and slipping into one of a handful of late-night bars that stay open until 4am for those seeking mischief and whiskey.
Which is something that should always be sought.
Read on to fall in love in North Greenpoint.
Cocktails at Alameda
195 Franklin St.
The bar takes center stage at this unpretentious little spot on Franklin St. A huge round bar made from concrete they poured directly from a truck through the entrance it into a mold, it’s obvious that this bar has staying power, and exudes that type of confidence in a love that will last.
Get the Moon Balloon cocktail (trust me, you’ll get past the name after the first sip) for a perfect balance between smokey and fresh, or a glass of the Gamay to keep things light.
Dinner at Le Fanfare
1103 Manhattan Ave
This charming little Italian spot in North Greenpoint is owned by a few friends from Sardinia and seems to embody what they love and miss about the island itself; simple, beautiful architectural details, a setting that makes you want to slow down and enjoy life, and a distinct feeling of familiarity. Le Fanfare maintains a “slow food” certification, which means that everything is prepared with the utmost care and thus encouraged to sit and sip and savor, for a while. Settle into the chic, minimalist decor with antique accents that keep the mood a perfect balance between style and seduction.
Order the Octopus, the Spaghetti Neri, the Hanger Steak, the Cannoli, and a bottle of the Carmenere, from Sardinia. Finish the meal with two shots of Averna or glasses of Prosecco, which, if you say you heard about them from Brooklyn, I’m Trying, will be on the house.
Threes Brewing
113 Franklin St.
Yep, your favorite Gowanus brewery has an outpost in Greenpoint, with a bar and a relatively expansive area for events. They host everything from comedy shows to open mic nights, artisan markets to late-night djs. Check out their calendar here and take your date for some amazing local beers, cocktails, and entertainment.
Magick City
37 Box St.
Your other amazing option for entertainment in NoGreePo is Magick City, a warehouse and venue that hosts events from literary dinners to rave-style underground dance parties. They don’t happen every night, so check here first then make some Magick happen.
Oak and Iron
147 Franklin St.
This is definitively the local watering hole and neighborhood go-to for an unpretentious but also non-divey bar that stays open late. The atmosphere is cozy and nostalgic, the bartenders are cool, the patrons are often colorful but never offensive. Order a shot and a beer to fit in, or one of the 6 classic cocktails that are stitched onto the fabric banner of a menu, on the wall. Test your luck by betting a dollar and rolling the dice to win a jar of loose bills, that should be up to at least at $200 by now, and really impress your date.
And if it goes until the morning…
Bakeri
105 Freeman St.
This cute little spot is locally owned and run by women in janitor jumpsuits. They make the best baked goods in the neighborhood by far, and there’s no WiFi so your romance won’t burn out by the unnatural glow of a laptop farm. Get the savory tart of the day and a cinnamon bun, if they haven’t run out yet. Because they always do.
And after all that, if you’re not in love yet, it’s time to find someone else. (Or do this crazy experiment…)
All my <3,
L.
