Halloween falls on a Thursday this year which causes some confusion. When do we dress up? When do we celebrate? When do we cause reckless neighborhood mischief? When do we consume ungodly amounts of candy?
Instead, we should see this timely happenstance as a gift. We do it this weekend, we do it all weekend. and then we do it Thursday, too. And just so we don’t feel hungover or sugar withdrawals, maybe and we’ll do it a little on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, too, because we are grown-ups now and no one can tell us when to eat candy and that there’s only one night a year to when to stay up all night and when it’s ok to be someone or something else.
Fortunately, there is someone to tell us just how to do all of these things. That’s why I’m here. Just keep reading for your Halloweekend guide. Just add mischief and a costume. Let’s get spooky baby.

Wet Haunt American Summer at Littlefield in Gowanus
I know what you did last summer. But I also know what you didn’t do: celebrate Halloween. Sure, most folks would tell you Halloween is a fall holiday. But pumpkin spice lattes aren’t nearly as scary as bug juice. And since this year we’re all feeling the seasonal creep, the good people at the skint are going to keep things hot and sweaty for just a little longer with Wet Haunt American Summer Halloween Party. It’s happening this Frightday in a cabin in the woods (Littlefield. It’s a spooky dance party celebrating things that go bunk in the night. Featuring music by DJs Brendan & Bianca, a photo booth, spiked drink specials, a costume contest, and 100 pounds of candy. As for the dress code: It’s Halloween, so anything goes. Dress as a zombie lifeguard, a talking can of vegetables, Fleabag, a broken L train, 30-50 feral hogs. It all descends upon Littlefield at 10:30pm. Info here. 135 Sackett St.
Halloweeeee! at the Sultan Room in Bushwick
If you know nothing about the Turk’s Inn, then you haven’t been paying attention. But what you need to know now is that this place feels like it was made for Halloween. And the dance club atop it? Well, it was made for your late-night Halloween after-party. Head there this Friday night and dance away your “yes, this is my costume” blues with a bunch of other creeps. Stay long enough to get a late-night kebab and don’t regret it. You better not fucking regret it. You’re cooler than that. Info here.
Halloween at the Green-Wood Cemetery in Sunset Park
Is there anything more gangster than wandering around a cemetery with a bunch of buried mobsters and corrupt politicians on Halloweekend? Nope, there’s not. Come, get your creep on and cuddle up to your lover or someone you wish who was. Learn something about the history of this town and find some skeletons in the closet. It’s immersive theater. It’s you not knowing which way is up, who’s dead and undead, who’s with you and not with you. This will be the coolest thing you can do this weekend, so do it. Info here.
