As that wintertime haze sets into our minds and our hearts and our city, it’s important to notice the radiant beauty in everything. There’s beauty in the grime. There’s an allure in the hustle. There’s a seduction inherent in this city, in its energy, it’s heartbeat, its soul. It’s alive and pulsing and each of us are a part of it. So break out of that the winter doldrums and avoid the temptation to hibernate. You’re not a bear. You’re a hustler. Get to hustling, Brooklyn. Your weekend guide (and fearless leader!) await.
Right this way.

Mama Yoshi, Japanese Comfort Food Pop-Up at the Diamond in Greenpoint
Japan, home of zen things. Temples. Yin and yangs. Those sand drawing things. A calm and centered culture that feels like a far cry from the hustle and bustle of our fair city… and maybe, just maybe, their secret is in Japanese comfort food. Foods like katsu sandwiches and curry, potato korokke, tonkatsu, and shiso slaw will bring you into the paper-walled houses of Japan and away from the paper-thin apartment walls of Brooklyn. Let Mama Yoshi comfort you this Thursday at the Diamond’s International Pop-Up Dinner series. Then get cozy with a few beers you’ve never heard of from Dave’s always impressive and constantly changing beer list. 7-11pm, info here. 43 Franklin St.

FRIDAY
I Feel Party at a Secret Location in Brooklyn
Sometimes you just need a night of glitter and disco with all your best friends. Put on a costume. Make bad decisions, people won’t recognize you. Bring the funk. Leave nothing but a memory and a trail of glitter behind. Feel fucking alive. It’s the I Feel party in Brooklyn. Think aerialists, glowing go go dancers, tribal drug-induced love circles, and moving and shaking well into dawn. Costumes encouraged. Tickets, $35 available here. The location is secret but here’s a tip- it’s at a bizarre location in the north.
Castaways Casino Club hosted by the Gemini and Scorpio Loft in Gowanus
Let’s all go back to the days of tacky shirts and visors, over-glammed dice throwers and obnoxious tropical drinks. Of sunsets over open waters and the magically illicit activities that are permitted offshore. Dress in your tackiest polynesian kitsch and gamble the night away along the off-ish shores of the tropical Gowanus Canal. Oh and also, there will be dancing. All info here, RSVP for address. ‘Cause they fucking cool like that.
Justin Miller x Lovers at Rose Gold in Bushwick
Since the demise of some of our best music venues (Manhattan Inn, Cameo Gallery, Glasslands, Spikehill) we need to embrace, support, and pour one out for our lost homies at so many fantastic new venues that are popping up. Do it this Friday at Rose Gold, the magical space beneath Cape House. Justin Miller and Lovers will be spinning all night. Go. Dance. 11pm-4am, Tickets and info here, 96 Morgan Ave.
SATURDAY
2018 Women’s March on NYC
Show them that the future is female and we are the future. We are the movement so let’s move together and march together in solidarity and with audacious hope for a better world for all of us. Be a part of history. Be a part of the future. And let’s all join hands and let our voices be heard loud enough so that the angry cheetoh in the White House knows that our pussies grab back. It’s happening 11am-3pm from 72nd and Central Park West down 6th Avenue. Be there. More info here.
Spoons and Tunes at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg
Why Netflix away your hanvoger at home when you can watch cartoons and eat ALL THE CEREAL YOU WANT at nitehawk in your jammies with your friends? And make new friends too? Because you’re in your jammies so you’re probably feeling a little open and vulnerable and huggable? It starts at 11:30am. And ok so the jammies are optional but don’t be lame. Info here, 136 Metropolitan Ave. (Hey also. You can add Bailey’s or Kahlua to your cereal, or have a white russian topped with Cocoa Puffs. And you don’t have to tell your mom.)
Mini Golf and Beer at Shipwrecked in Red Hook
Do you need to know anything else? It’s an adventure land of mini golf and each treasure hunt is led by a pirate captain. And there’s beer. Ahoy maties, see you on the high seas and greens of Shipwrecked Mini Golf in Red Hook. Tickets and info here with a pretty embarassingly punny description of the event. 6-10pm, 621 Court St.
Kingdom of Yes at House of Yes in Bushwick
Let me ask a rhetorical question. If House of Yes was to create a magical winter kingdom and had an open call for princes, princesses, gender-neutral royalty, sex-servants, and jesters, would you don your finest winter wonderland kingdom costumes and go show how worthy you are to be part of the kingdom by drinking copious amounts of alcohol from goblets and dancing like a sugar plum fairy or a slut all night in pure seduction and elation for the sake of the kingdom? Yeah, of course you fucking would. Free before 11pm. Go, let’s all dream of a better land with a better ruler and cooler fashion trends (PUN!). Info here. 10pm-5am. 2 Wyckoff Ave.
SUNDAY
Soup Takedown at the Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint.
Hey. Sup? Soup? K.
You know, soups kind of get a bad rap (is it rap or rep?). They’re warm and comforting and pair nicely with half sammies and make you feel good. But what you don’t know is that soups can be bad, baby. They can be vile. Nasty. Evil. See these mean soups go head to head and take each other down. Way way down. It’s the soup takedown. Be there, this weekend. All you can eat soups, limited voting, one winner. $20 tickets available here, 2-4pm, 150 Greenpoint Ave.
<– Look at this cool foldable Soup Rescue Unit!
Three Kings Day Parade and Cultural Celebration in Bushwick
Did you know that they don’t have Santa in Spain? And no, not because his sleigh can’t fly across the ocean, it’s because they have their own purveyors of presents. And their names are … Sound weird? Really? Weirder than hanging up old socks on the fireplace for a fat man to fill with presents and then get back on his reindeer-fueled sleigh? Come be part of the spirit of Three Kings day and share in the culture and heritage at so many of the Spanish-speaking cultures in our city. It’s the Three Kings Day Parade, this year dedicated to the families of Puerto Rico. It goes down the Ave of Puerto Ricos (Graham!) in Bushwick. All info here. Vamos.
Get out there, you crazy hooligans. It’s your weekend.
