Hey there spookies. Get out there and get your freak on. Let your skeletons out of the closet. Paint the town blood fucking red. I’ll show you how, right now. In your weekend guide.
Things to do in Brooklyn on Thursday
The 46th Annual Village Halloween Parade
An NYC tradition since 1973, head to the West Village today if you want to see the wildest, the weirdest, and the spookiest inhabitants of our fair city. Because if you live here, you have some skeletons in your closet or at least a much darker side that only comes out at night. The parade starts at 7pm and the reveling will go way, way into the wee hours. Info here. The parade route is along 6th Avenue, from Spring to 16th St.
Feeling like you’ll feel out of place? March with House of Yes, your favorite freaky friends. Dust off your Burning Man get-ups or just slip on whatever you usually wear to parties at their spooky circus haven in Bushwick. Sign up to join them here.
Wyld Things Halloween Parade After-Party at Spin NYC in the East Village
Because you will want to get your freak on after all the things you’ll see parading proudly up Sixth Avenue. Unleash your inner beast and show your wild side with House of Yes and Kostume Kult in the East Village. They’ll be taking over SPIN NYC and turning it into a jungle of wonder and weird. Come in costume, and make it a good one. Dance all night. Hook up with your spirit animal. Tickets and info here. 9pm-4am. 48 East 23rd St.
Gala of the Gone at House of Yes in Bushwick
A little too freaked out to be in Manhattan all night? I get it. Me too. Head back to Bushwick and celebrate Halloween at your House of All Things Freaky. House of Yes will be hosting their annual Gala of the Gone. Because on this night, the veils are thinnest and the spirits are near. Channels are open, perceptions are clear and we are ready to receive the thick breath of life and death and touch the thread that exists between the two. Light the candles, burn the fires. Revitalize. Rejuvenate. Celebrate. Costumes are required, which you should know by now. Info here. 2 Wyckoff Ave. at House of Yes, where they put the sensual in consensual.™
Spooky Films and Cider at Brooklyn Cider House in Bushwick
Because sometimes you just want to warm up and drink cider and scare the living shit out of yourself with a bunch of friends and strangers at a Ciderhouse in Bushwick instead of dressing up and balling out on Halloween. And I don’t blame you one bit. Head to Bushwick Cider House Thursday night for a night of spooky films and cider. And if you DO want to dress up, you get a free cider. So think about it.
Boneyard Bash at Domino Park in Williamsburg
Because sometimes it’s easier just to dress your pooch up than to figure out how to sexify whatever leftover costume fragments you have in your closet. If that’s the case, come celebrate at the Boneyard Bash. It’s a Halloween pet parade and party and I know I’ll be there with my cat, dressed as a dog, dressed as a Frankenstein dog. Info here.
Spooky Fruity at Lemon’s at the top of the Wythe in Williamsburg
Spooky fruity! ohh Rudy… It’s spooky fruity! at Lemon’s in Bushwick. And what does that mean? It means your Halloween costume problems have been solved, for the most part. Do you have a favorite fruit? Can you imagine how to dress like it? Great. Then come to this party and dance the night away on a fruit punch bowl of a dance floor. Yeah. Then get a little bruised with whatever fruit suits you best. Info here. It’s happening at Lemon’s Rooftop, at the Wythe. 8pm-1:30am, 80 Wythe Ave.
Halloween at Bierocracy in LIC
Hey so me and my boyfriend are bartending together for the first time ever. And we’re going to be dressed as Crispy Boys. And if you come and promise not to order a fucking mojito and you’re also in a costume then you get a free beer. Plus, get an extra free beer if you relentlessly ask DJ Loudone to play Monster Mash again. Just don’t tell him I told you. They open at 4pm so hurry up, get your costume together so I can pour you a cold one. Info here. 12-23 Jackson Ave. #crispyboys
FearNYC presents The Tingler at Film Noir Cinema in Greenpoint
It’s the 60th anniversary of this spooky film and no better place to experience it than in the back of an antique theater in Greenpoint. Cuddle up with a freaky date and prepare for some of the famous gimmicks (you know, those classic Tingler moves!) and some live experiences we’ll apparently never forget (I’m getting tingly already!). Tickets are selling out fast- get yours here now. Tingle and ready to Mingle baby.
Gutterween 2019 at Gutter Bar in Williamsburg, all weekend.
Hey. So remember the absolutely terrifying Ebola epidemic? And remember when there were murmurs that it had hit NYC? And remember when you realized that not only was it here, but it was in North Brooklyn, at a place where we all share shoes and put our fingers in balls and a place that was proudly named for its reluctant uncleanliness? Well, I sure as fuck do. The Gutter is still one of my favorite trash bars in town, and proudly Ebola free now. Celebrate with their annual Gutterween. Just show up, communicable-disease free and preferably in costume. Info here. 200 N. 14th St.
Things to do in Brooklyn on Friday
Dia de los Muertos at Bushwick Public House
HEY! Hey. Wake up. For real, wake up. Halloween is a good excuse to not be yourself and get drunk but just south of us, November 1st is a VERY significant holiday. Like, more than candy and pumpkins and David S. Pumpkins. Celebrate the Day of the Dead and commemorate loved ones past, or just show off your #sephora sugar skull skills and come to this Day of the Dead celebration at Bushwick Public House. There will be music. Dancing. Cocktails. That cute little boy from Coco. And maybe your dead relatives. Info here. 8-11:30pm, 1288 Myrtle Ave.
The Ridgewood Slaughterhouse at the Deep End in Ridgewood
Listen. There are 2 types of people in the world- those people who want to be scared shitless and those who have wild imaginations to have absolutely no need to go to a haunted house for entertainment. If you are of the former mental capacity, go to this. The Ridgewood Slaughterhouse nearly guarantees you’ll have to throw that underwear away. And better yet, you’ll have to pay for it. Do so here. (PS this also exists and it’s free. Just sayin’) 1080 Wyckoff Ave.
The Magician presents: Potion at Avant Gardner in Bushwick
Warehouse parties can be unimaginative. Fancy ticketed Halloween parties come with fancy ticketed prices and the elusive promise of an “open bar”. And bar crawling on Halloweekend is basically a slow, nocturnal suicide. Come to what promises to be the best Halloween party this weekend with the Magician experience descends upon the Brooklyn Mirage for a spooky spectacular in a vast labyrinth space. Four stages, 11+ DJs, immersive projections on every surface of this 4-story open-air space, spooky themed room experiences and the best dancing and party scene you’ll find outside of Ibiza. Costumes preferred, tickets are selling out soon. Get yours here now. 9pm-6am, 140 Stewart St.
Solidarity Sounds presents: Murder Mystery at an unexpected location in Bushwick
We all know how most Friday night parties are going to go. Even when the location is “TBA” and they have a “surprise guest!” it’s usually the same scenario. Pregame. Drugs. Dancing. Shots. Dancing. Making decisions we regret or waking up alone on the couch with our clothes on and keys still in the door. Well folks, not this time. Solidarity Sounds wants to throw you a curveball this Friday night at their Murder Mystery party. Find out whodunnit while sipping 1920s inspired cocktails and, also, you will #revelwithacause because all proceeds will directly impact a family seeking asylum through The Solidarity Room Project. Get your tickets here now. 8-11pm, 136 Lawrence St
Nosferatu with a live score at Film Noir in Greenpoint
Come and see this 1920s era thriller in a hidden vintage theater in Greenpoint. They’ll be playing Nosferatu with a live score, and throwing one hell of a spooky party after. Come. Let your inner monster loose. Info here.
Things to do in Brooklyn on Saturday
Rublad’s Annual Goth Prom somewhere in Bushwick
Maybe your goth phase lasted a little too long. Maybe it’s been waiting all this time for you to wake it up. Maybe you didn’t lose your virginity on prom night, and you want to pretend to again. There are a lot of reasons to go to this event, but the main reason is that it’s a Rubulad party. They have owned the party scene in Brooklyn for way too many years to still maintain an anonymous location (DM me) but trust me when I say this is where you want to be. Come. Prom. Info here. Location TBA-ish. 7pm-late.
Halloween Costume Ball at Mirror in the Woods in Gowanus
You know how you always come up with your best costume ideas the day after Halloween? Well, prove it. Things to do in Brooklyn on Sunday
New York Marathon Sunday. All Over Town.
Is that a banana in your hand, or are you just happy to see me, and 52,000 other people running past you? It’s both. Because this Sunday is the NY marathon and let’s face it guys, we’ve all been listening to and participating putting a lot of energy into what separates us… and Sunday is one of the most beautiful symbols of what keeps us united; perseverance, determination, and cheering on friends and strangers with everything you have in you on the streets of this fantastic city. Go and watch and be moved. The race starts at 8am and ends… well it ends when it ends, and it passes by my block the whole damn time so come, say hi. Bring me a banana. info here.
Smashing Pumpkins at McGolrick Park in Greenpoint
No, I mean like, actually smashing of pumpkins. They’ll invite you to bring yours to smash and destroy and let all of that Sunday stress out while also contributing to a community compost that will be used in NYC parks. And also, get some goods from the Farmers’ Market. Info here.
