things I’m doing this weekend that will include curious creatures, running around the city, and certainly a poke or two but will all take place outside of my phone screen.
chase me instead, brooklyn. and start here.
THURSDAY
UP LATE at the Highline, Chelsea.
there’s a reason we choose warehouse parties. because for all of the multi-sensory experiences provided, and all of the elevation one so chooses to ascend into, you can walk out the front door and the only battle you face is where the hell the jefferson stop or the riverfront is from the exit. thursday night’s party promises to be all of that, and the promenade will be peppered with papier-mache headed performers, illuminated installations, “hidden surprises” and no easy exits. it’s your first (of TWO!) reasons to cross the river this weekend- go because you love the highline. leave because you found the staircase. starts at 10pm, rsvp fo’ free here (and if they sell out, send me a message ‘cause i got you boo.) on the highline from gaansevort to 18th, 10pm-midnight.
The Goonies Drinking Game at Littlefield, Boerum Hill.
up there it’s there time, it’s there time up there. down here it’s our time- it’s our time down here. in brooklyn. head to littlefield thursday night. watch the film. makeout with your brother’s girlfriend, break sculptures in precarious ways, lift up your shirts and shake what you got- because inevitably it’s all at your fingertips. 22 degraw st, $8-10- tickets here, doors 730 show at 8. it’s gonna be a rocky road, baby (ruth).

Special Screening: Bill Cunningham New York, IFC Center, Manhattan.
so many beautiful artists lost this year, and here is one among them. the pioneer of street style- a relentless photographer, a carnegie hall resident, a shameless windbreaker-wearer, a cyclist, a true new yorker, a friend. your second reason to cross the river this weekend– see this documentary. thursday night at IFC center, with Q&A director and producer. 730pm, tickets and info here. 323 sixth ave. don’t break wind, windbreak.
FRIDAY
Haus of Yas Drag Life Dance Party, Bushwick.
so. there are many things to say about this event but i’ll just take a step back here and leave you with one word- vajazzling.
yep. vajazzling. for all other information, see here or just go and be bold and let your private parts steal the show in all of their sparkling bejeweled glory (there will be djs and amateur pole dancing and a drag show and just about everything else too.) 9pm-4am $15, or free before 11pm. 2 wyckoff ave at the house of yas- where all that shimmers are vaginas™.
Emo Night at the Bell House, Gowanus.
ROOTS Cafe Poetry Series, Park Slope
Brooklyn Lobster Fest, The Hall at MP Taverna, Williamsburg.
as a virginia expat, i find myself defending the king of the crustaceans rather adamantly here in the land of the lobstah. the first time i cracked open a lobster claw and physically had to take bites of the meat it felt indulgent, it felt slimey- it felt a bit like cheating. good at first and then you realize that you are worth more. we crab pickers understand the struggle and menial reward. everyone knows the lobsters migrated north because the little baby yankee hands couldn’t handle a crap pickin. anyway, there’s a lobster fest in brooklyn and i’m not above going. shit is damn tasty $35. party starts at 6pm, happy hour 6-7pm, half off cocktails, beer and sangria. there will be dancing there will be live music there will be corn on the cobs. all info and tickets here. 470 driggs ave. see you there, scalawags.
PS1 Summer Warm-Up, Long Island City.
Transmitter Park Garden Volunteer Day, Greenpoint.
The Blue Light Speak Cheesy Pop-Up at the Diamond, Greenpoint.
5-11pm, $8-12, i’ll stop the world and melt with you. especially if it’s at my favorite neighborhood bar and between two pieces of perfectlly toasted breads. or intentionally toasted hipsters. head to the diamond anywhere from 5 to 11pm and imbibe on the blue light speak cheesy’s most inventive toasties. because nothing compliments a perfectly-curated rotating roster of cask and small batch brews quite like a grilled cheese, 43 franklin ave, 5-11pm, $8-12. please me, cheese me.
The Epic Ride, Greenpoint to Riis Park, Brooklyn and Queens.
Return to Riis- Get Summered at Jacob Riis Park, Queens.
