it’s officially summertime brooklyn, let’s get on our bikes and ride into the sunset holding hands. because fuck it, what do we care as long as there’s sun on our shoulders and mischief on our minds and tequila in our bellies and a song on our lips and love in our hearts. and if you are lacking in any one of those areas, at all, this weekend guide of magical summertime bliss is just what you need to fill back up, to ignite that soul, to set you free. let it ride, baby. it’s the summertime, see? feels so damn good.

a cookout? no way, not in my backyard. because we live in new york and back yards don’t exist. but one does at the diamond in greenpoint, that magical little gem of a beer bar. they open up the yard to all of us thursday for a cookout, cambodian style. what does that mean? I don’t exactly know but intend to find out. Our friends at kreung takeover the weekly international pop up dinner thursday night. 6pm- they run out. read the menu here and swallow all of your excuses and come early and hungry and then #meetmeinthegondola where we will share pork belly and secrets. 43 franklin st.

Bicycle Film Festival, all over town! ALL WEEKEND!

high rents and demand lead us all to live grandiose lives in bite sized spaces. let’s celebrate it, eh? loftopera takes the opera out of the opera house and into our spaces. found and rudimentary. listen to the acoustics reverberating off of exposed ceilings and unfinished walks and let the passion pour out sanctimoniously just as the drunken fights or love you make with your lover often do. we’ve been waiting since their epic performance of Othello left us breathless, so come see Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, performed in brooklyn’s permier circus school (naturally) and featuring the costume designs of christian joy, whose portfolio boasts the adornments of karen O and childish gambino, just to name a few. be a part of it at the muse in bushwick for an intimate affair of truly heartbreaking and earth-shattering proportions in the only way an opera this intimate can be. tickets $30 (which is an insane steal for this talent), available here. the show runs through july 8th. 350 moffat st. bet you’ll like it better than pirates of penzance.

There was a time when LGBT was edgy and hard and dangerous. Pride used to be punk. Then one day we woke up in a pile of rainbow-spangled Budweiser beach blankets and TD-Bank-sponsored buttplugs. But when did we start gluing Nike drawstring rave-packs to our backs and spending our life savings on HBA-brand concept culottes? What like, actually happened to us? We used to wear colors, didn’t we? We at CHERYL believe that, as with most things in life, we can gain perspective by looking at cats. Big cats. Lions. It’s no coincidence that a pack of lions is called a “pride” – and lions AIN’T body fascists. On June 23, we encourage you to subvert the power of the logo, channel some jungle cat spirits, and don your most vividly-hued GLADRAGS (meaning, if you show up in black/white/Adidas, we will paint you orange and permanently tattoo the Dunkin Donuts logo on your face, so that you can remember what it means to be a real person).

when i find events happening in this town that combine every single one of my favorite things, well… it feels like pure magic(k). brunch. baos. sparkling cocktails. sparkling people. djs. dancing. THIS EVENT IS EVERYTHING. it’s the launch party for Lick my Baos at magick city, and it’s a big warm baowy-wowy dance party. noon-pm, $10. tickets and all other info is here but you know enough. come. 37 box st.

farm to table feels often like something that is forced down your throat. this is farm to table, they say and slap on an extra $15 charge to it all. what farm? and where? and i guaran-damn-tee that it touched something else in between that farm and this table… well sunday you willfully shove it all down your throat at roof to plate pizza at archestratus, featuring ingredients from eagle st rooftop. build your own pizza. they are all personal and made to order $15. beer and wine for purchase. pick up a copy of Annie Novak’s (from eagle st rooftop farm) book while you’re there and learn to start your own. pizza from 4-6pm. all info here. 160 huron st.

(they do, i’ve heard them say it) and this is just the event for that. it’s the good roof at dobbin st and it’s everything your body wants and needs, to dance yrself clean in the summer sun with all your friends and lovers.
