Fourth of July is simply the best combination of everything that’s good in life. hot weather, hot dogs, hot babes. pyrotechnics. and it’s on a Wednesday this year, which means a lovely little mid-week vacation and another chance to drink beers and dance and be free with all your friends. I’ve put together a little mini guide on the best places to do all of those things in the ‘hood. just add fireworks.
(which I think Macy’s is taking care of. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make your own.)
The Box House Hotel in Greenpoint
The Box House Hotel is opening up their magical rooftop to the public for the first time this 4th of July, meaning you’ll have 360 views for when all of the magic happens. They’ll have food from local favorites Amami Sushi, Glasserie, the Meatball Shop, Cuzin’s Duzins, and more. DJs spinning all night. Tickets are going fast; get yours here now. 77 Box St.
Summer of Love with House of Yes, Bushwick
Hot meat, dirty dancing, and so much love. From the place that has been helping us live and love free every damn day, House of yes will be having an epic cookout from 1-9pm with house dj’s spinning all day, plus interactive art, live painting, hot tub surprises, barbecue, and plenty of lounge space will make your 4th magical. $10 tickets available here, plus there will be lots at the door. 2 Wyckoff Ave.
Northern Territory, Greenpoint
They’ll open at 4pm, tickets are $60 cash, first come, first serve. This stellar rooftop in Greenpoint is guaranteed to have one of the best views. all info here, 12 Franklin st.
Brooklyn Barge, Greenpoint
Right on the water, ticket prices vary depending on how close you want to be and how many lobster rolls you can consume. And between you and me, it’s always a good decision to get as close as possible and put nearly no limitations on your crustacean consumption. All info and tickets here. 3 Milton St.
The Diamond, Greenpoint
I can’t deny that 4th of July makes me a bit nostalgic for home. long hot nights and backyard barbecues, tubing down the James River and taking in all of the beauty of a Virginia summer. And well, the diamond is pretty much as close as you can get to all of that magic. Wednesday they’ll be hosting a little BYOBarbecue in the backyard with so you don’t have to be sad that you don’t have a grill or a yard. You already know they have the best beer selection in town to complement your creations. Let’s share weiners in the gondola. Berry Park, Williamsburg.
The original williamsburg rooftop, they always throw a great party for the 4th. $20 cover, full menu will be available. they’ll open at 5pm, djs all night. info here. 4 berry st.
North Brooklyn Farms, Williamsburg
A low-key party down on the farm, this wondrous natural gem between the Domino Sugar factory and the Williamsburg Bridge will have food by La Salumina, beer by Other Half, wine by The Drop, seltzer by Spindrift, popsicles by Mom & Icepops, & kombucha by Mombucha – and one of the best views in town. The William Vale, Williamsburg.
ruining the skyline and fireworks viewing for so many brooklynites, they’ll be having a fancy party in the way only they can. listen, we all complained about this place, but have you been up there? i’m serious… have you been? because you’ll realize that it’s pretty fucking beautiful. and you’ll keep going back. just like whole foods. Buy america bandanas at Cato’s Army & Navy in Greenpoint (654 manhattan ave) for your whole tribe. You need to look like a team out there, and who knows if these cookouts will be supplying napkins. And beer drinking can be inhibited by sweat burning your eyes. Just trust me, get one. and then you can join my tribe. Buy meats at Meat Hook. All of the meats. And charcoals. and a styrofoam cooler from 711, who make the best styrofoam coolers in the biz. (sorry, deblasio!) Fill aforementioned cooler with brooklyn summer ales and rose. Elect someone to supply the bluetooth speaker. Go early and procure a coveted grill and picnic table at brooklyn bridge park. fire it up, slap ’em down, pop ’em open, turn it up, recite the pledge of allegiance, and celebrate how wonderful it is to live in this beautiful city and to have it finally feel like summer and to be with friends. drinking beers. on a Wednesday. And Thursday? Forget about Thursday. Get out there, Brooklyn. Feel free.
